Okay, turns out there is a word for being a part-time vegetarian: a flextarian!
It also turns out that there is a Vegetarian Society for D.C. and they have conveniently composed a very thorough list of most of the vegetarian friendly restaurants here in the area, click here for that list.
Personally, this is my wish list for the next two months- I plan on dragging some of my friends along with me so we can sample an assortment of dishes while I snap away with my Canon.

Ahh a flextarian I am then, for I eat chicken and turkey slices in my sandwhiches.
I can’t believe in your city there’s actually a whole list of vegetarian places. In my city there are only a handful at best. So lucky! Can’t wait to see what pictures you take.

DC has tons of veg options. Check out Compassion Over Killing (COK) they were founded by an old coworker of mine and they publish the Veg DC Guide each year. They can help you find dozens of good veg options in the area. http://www.cok.net/

Flextarian is hilarious. But if it gives folks a label they are comfortable with that helps reduce meat consumption a bit (yes I’m with Mark Bittman on that, it’s a good thing. Our web cooking show (Cookus Interruptus)could be labeled “flextarian”. About 75% of our recipe videos are vegetarian and we advocate using meat and poultry in smaller portions than carnivores, larger than vegans and a little more than ovo-lacto-pesco vegetarians…

Spot on with this write-up, I really think this website needs far more attention.
I’ll probably be back again to read more, thanks for the advice!
